Make a Cake Stand | Simple DIY Project

Cake stands are adorable and useful (especially during Christmas cookie season), but tough to collect. They cay be pricey, especially the vintage ones, and they take up a lot of room in a china cabinet. So I’ve come up with a solution to satisfy my cake stand fetish without overwhelming my budget or storage capacity. I came up with an easy way to make a cake stand that you can take apart when you no longer need it. Materials to Make a Cake Stand A pretty drinking glass (mine was from Anthropologie), a pretty plate in a reasonably proportional size (you can find hobnail plates similar to this one here), and some museum putty (also called earthquake putty) a lightly adhesive compound, available in many hardware stores, that will hold the plate together. Assembly is pretty self-explanatory, but here’s the photo: You simply put the putty on the bottom of the upturned jar and stick the plate on top. If you’re using a clear glass plate, whatever you’re displaying on the stand will cover the putty. If you’re using an opaque plate, you’ll never see it! And there you go! A lovely DIY cake stand that can be disassembled once you’re finished with it. Then the cup and plate can go back into circulation for their intended uses. And you get to play with as many cake stands as your imagination and dinnerware collection will allow.
