Chocolate Pinwheels
3/4 cups shortening (part butter or margarine)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. Baking powder
1 tsp. Salt
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
Heat oven to 400 degrees.
Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla thoroughly. Sift flour and mix with
baking powder and salt; blend in. Divide dough in half, and mix one half
with melted cooled chocolate. Chill dough at least 1 hour. Roll each piece
of dough separately into an oblong. Lay chocolate dough on top of white.
Roll together until 3/16 inches thick. Roll up tightly, beginning at wide
side. Chill again. Cut 1/8 inch thick slices; place on ungreased baking
sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. Makes 7 dozen cookies.
