3/4 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups sugar
2-3/4 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 cup chopped English walnuts
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond extract
4 egg whites
Cream together the shortening and the sugar. Sift the flour with the baking powder and salt and add to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Add the flavorings and the nuts, and then carefully fold the egg whites, beaten stiff, into the batter. Put in a cake pan which has been buttered and floured and bake 1 hour at 350 degrees F. This cake is nice frosted with Mocha or Maple Cream frosting.
