3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) butter
1/4 cup unsifted powdered sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup cornmeal
1-3/4 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
powdered sugar, for finishing
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and set rack to lower third. Cream butter, sugars, and vanilla. Mix cornmeal, flour, and salt, then add to butter mixture. Shape into 1-inch balls and bake on greased baking sheets for 12 to 15 minutes. Sift powdered sugar on them while they are still warm, then apply a second coating when cool.
