“The early American furnishings of Wildwood attract many who’ve been touring nearby Old Sturbridge Village or Historic Deerfield, and we treat them to this pioneer favorite a spicy, sweet, and moist applesauce nut bread.” –The Wildwood Inn, Ware, Massachusetts
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup walnuts
1 egg, beaten
1 cup applesauce
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix all ingredients together, stirring just enough to moisten. Pour into greased and floured 9×5-inch baking pan. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted in center. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before removing from pan.
