Judging by the stories we still tell about the Blizzard of ’78, New England prides itself on bearing up and hunkering down. However, the events of recent weeks are challenging even the hardiest, most independent among us to find new sources of strength and comfort. We here at Yankee hope this new weekly collection can help provide that to our audience, no matter where they live.
Pick-Me-Ups: News and Notes from the Yankee Community
From This Week’s News
These gathered tidbits of good news are a celebration of our individual communities — the ones in sprawling cities as well as tiny hamlets, all across the country — and our collective determination to see each other through this difficult time.
Massachusetts native John Krasinski offers “Some Good News,” his new YouTube channel whose delights include hearing the star of Jack Ryan talking about “lobstah” and saying hi to his old Office-mate Steve Carell.
Reader Roll Call
So what are you doing, planning, or thinking about these days? To find out, we’re posting questions on our social channels — and rounding up some favorite topics and reader responses right here. This week: If you had to pick just five New England recipes to master, what would they be?
• “Chowder (always looking for the next best), johnnycakes, red flannel hash, apple cider donuts, and fried clam bellies, to mention a few.” —George Roman
• “Clam chowdah, stuffed quahogs, Boston cream pie, steamed clams, lobster bisque.” —Kathy Chandler Seitz
• “Lobster, lobster, lobster, little necks and lobster!” —Meg Brown
• “Oh my! There are so many favorite New England dishes I already share with my family and friends, I wouldn’t know which ones to choose over another! … The ones that are too difficult or challenging for me, well, I just prefer to find a fabulous New England restaurant and enjoy them there!” —Nell Daniels
Until Next Week…
We’ll be back next week with another care package of news and notes, so until then—
