DUBLIN, NH (November 2019)— When Yankee launched the annual YankeeFood Awards seven years ago, the magazine wanted to pay tribute to the New England food artisans who vastly contribute to the culture with quality foods made from the finest ingredients and with the highest craftsmanship. By bringing these top-quality offerings to our tables and pantries, they are changing the way we eat—and the trend continues to grow as their artistry becomes even more highly valued.
In Yankee Food Awards 2019 – part of the November-December “Special Holiday Issue” – Yankee once again features the editors’-choice list of New England’s most exquisite locally made foods, festive treats, and gift-worthy edibles—which also makes a handy guide for holiday giving and entertaining ideas.
To compile the list, Yankee senior food editor Amy Traverso and contributing editor Krissy O’Shea traveled to farmers’ markets, festivals, gourmet shops, and grocery stores all over New England in search of the best that all six states have to offer. Rather than naming “best in category” winners, they have presented 10 awards of excellence to standout products that include handmade cheeses, charcuterie, preserves, matzoh bread, mulling syrup, and candy.
“The selections for the Yankee Food Awards 2019 deeply reflect the character of New England and its landscape and the commitment of the food artisans to the local agricultural community,” said Amy Traverso, Yankee senior food editor. “The foods are all of the highest quality and imbued with the flavors of the region—from the nuttiness in hand-baked breads to the mineral brininess in the cheeses, the fruits of Cape Cod cranberry bogs added to the mulling syrups, and cider honey caramels made from ultra-creamy fresh goat milk and sweets made using organic local grassfed butter.”
