2 C. all-purpose flour
2 t. baking powder

2 t. ground ginger

8 T. (1 stick) soft, unsalted butter
1/4 C. sugar
1 large egg
2/3 C. unsulphured molasses
2/3 C. milk
Applesauce
3 lbs. McIntosh apples
1/2 C. sugar
1/2 C. water
Whipped Cream
2 C. cream
1/4 C. sugar
1 t. vanilla extract
2 cups toasted pecan pieces, for finishing
1 8-x-8-x-2-inch pan, buttered and the bottom lined with a square of
parchment or wax paper
1 2- to 3-quart trifle or other crystal or glass bowl
