August is a bittersweet month for me. It’s a favorite time of year, and yet it’s also a swan song to summer. That by no means is to diminish what comes next — autumn and all those amazing colors — but the New Englander in me can’t help but think about what follows after that. So, August feels like a crunch: I have to pack in all the summer activities that I haven’t gotten around to (and that’s always a lot) before the seasons change.
Where to begin?
Well, our “Perfect Weekends” package is a good start. In it, longtime travel writer Steve Jermanok guides us to some of the best getaways in New England, from a craft-beer-and-cocktail-themed escape to Stowe, Vermont, to history-laden overnights in Bristol, Rhode Island.
So get reading and then get traveling. August is here, and summer, as we all know, doesn’t last forever. —Ian Aldrich
